The Great Online Shopping Festival, was organised by Google India. Google India in partnership with several ecommerce companies organised the Great Online Shopping Festival. This opened the doors for Indian consumers to shop with various new online shopping centres. Google India roped in various ecommerce companies to take part in this online festival.
How successful was the event?
No doubt GOSF is a big event for the first of its kind in India, but there were scopes for Google to make it even better. Google could have been a little more categorised with the brands which it partnered with.
Exclusivity was lacking in this event. Indian consumers saw big names in the event which were already popular in India. If Google would have brought in other new ecommerce ventures, then Indian online consumers could have been exposed to a broader spectrum.
India needed this kind of event and experimentation. Therefore thanks to Google to encourage and organise this big event. It is expected in future, big names like Facebook and Twitter to join hands for big online retail events like this.
Jabong seemed to be very satisfied post GOSF. It experienced spike in its traffic and it effected in good conversion. Snapdeal experienced a record jump of about 60% increment in traffic which resulted in proportionate sales increment too. Infibeam had a glorious 300% increase in sales.
Myntra witnessed people getting more comfortable with the idea of online shopping and engaging in high value online transactions. Fashionara had 300% to 400% jump in traffic mobility in its site. Caratlene too saw a huge spike in traffic mobility.
Both the CEOs of Fashionara and Homeshop18 agreed that the GOSF created an ongoing buzz for online retail therapy in India. Such an initiative was the first drive for India, therefore its success or popularity was a dubious factor. But it went well to people’s expectations with new registrations, traffic augmentation, more orders and conversion.
Brands which scored over others
Both Myntra and Jabong experienced great fashionista following over apparels and footwears. Home decors, home electronics, mobiles and laptops were second in demand. Snapdeal was the highest gainer pertaining to orders in apparels and footwears. Gitanjali Gifts and Caratlene enjoyed considerable demand hike in jewellery items. Infibeam had record increment in sales of books and electronic products.
Are Indian online retailers open for more such events?
Most online retailers agreed to the fact that such events and festivals do help in creating awareness about online retail. With Great Online Shopping Festival customers saw value in online shopping. Most of the companies experienced significant growth in traffic and conversion rate.
Online shopping was at its baby steps pre to GOSF 2014 . With introduction of great online festivals, online retail ventures got exposed to tremendous promotion. Therefore many such events will surely make online retail come to forefront in future India.
