You’ll be able to create whole web applications by learning the “full-stack” (front-end, back-end, and database technology like SQL), which will be highly regarded in the tech industry and help you land a software engineering job.

There are benefits of self-study that you wouldn’t get from a pre-recorded software engineering course. If you wanted to learn software development for free online, such as via YouTube or blog posts, you wouldn’t get these benefits.
With Lambda, you’ll get a more immersive, high-quality learning experience.
You’ll also be working on real-world projects and portfolio pieces that you can display to prospective employers after you graduate.

Success Rate:
The success rate of any Bootcamp is a critical factor in deciding whether or not to participate. Within six months, 86 percent of Lambda’s graduating students find a tech job paying $50,000 or more, according to the company. By no way is this a bad success rate.
In an investment memo titled “Human Capital: The Last Unoptimized Asset Class” for the startup incubator Y Combinator, Lambda School reports that “We’re [Lambda School] at approximately 50% placement for cohorts that are 6 months graduated,” according to a study by Intelligencer published in February of 2020.
According to the Intelligencer, the 86 percent figure is based on the first cohort of 71 students at Lambda School, and even that amount, according to a former director of career readiness, may be inflated.
If this is the case, Lambda School’s success rate is significantly lower than that of its competitors.
Lambda School Student Application Process:
The application process at Lambda School is simple and consists of creating an account, filling out an application form online, taking entrance exams, and signing enrollment papers.
You must also decide between two programs: software engineering with an emphasis on web development and data science.
Finally, you’ll choose start date and complete your application.
However, Lambda School does have a specific type of person in mind when deciding who to admit to their programs, as mentioned on their website:
Is a Lambda School curriculum worthwhile?
Is a Lambda School curriculum worthwhile? It’s a fair point, given how notorious coding Bootcamps have been in recent years. And, to be honest, Lambda School’s tuition is on the higher end of the spectrum as compared to other related Bootcamps.
Lambda School is a school that prospective students should seriously consider attending. For certain people, $30,000 is a big amount. Not to mention the increasingly contentious existence of Income Sharing Agreements (ISAs), which are popular at Bootcamps such as Lambda.
Legislators such as Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren have cautioned that the existence of ISA agreements could be misleading or deceptive.
In the end, whether the Lambda School is worth the $30,000 or 17 percent of your gross income for two years depends on what you hope to gain/do with your Lambda School education.
You might be disappointed if you’re only searching for a certificate that says you know web development or data science. You will be competing with college-educated applicants for any tech position you apply for.
Furthermore, as previously said, Lambda School’s progress rate might not be as rosy as their website indicates. If, as some of their internal investment documents indicate, the real success rate is about 50-60% of graduates finding a $50k/year job within six months, the prospect of forking over $30,000 becomes more troublesome, particularly given the price is two times higher than average tuition at comparable Bootcamps.
Not to mention the fact that some students from Lambda’s first cohorts said the program was hurried and underdeveloped. Many students have had to rely on self-teaching and outside support to complete their work because the teaching staff has long been criticized for being unqualified.
To be honest, if these criticisms are true, Lambda School is not worth the money, particularly because there are numerous other Bootcamps that provide similar curriculum at a much lower cost.

Who Should go to Lambda School:
Lambda School is ideally suited for someone who is completely engaged, passionate, and eager to put in the effort necessary to pursue a career in technology.
The word “gritty” is used on Lambda’s website to describe the type of student they seek: someone who will persevere in the face of adversity, do whatever it takes to excel, and devote 100 percent of their time to studying computer science and software engineering.
So, if you’re on the fence about pursuing a career in software engineering or data science, Lambda School is not the best coding bootcamp for you.
Instead, start with a less expensive and easier solution like SkillShare, which is self-paced and needs less time and money.
Then you should come back to Lambda School at a later date! There’s no point in enrolling in such a costly and time-consuming programme if you’re not sure if this is the right career for you.
However, if you’re completely committed and want to learn software engineering in an immersive, live classroom environment, Lambda offers one of the best coding Bootcamps available.
Lambda School vs Self-Paced Courses
Even though you can teach yourself software engineering online, some resources are better than others. There’s one big difference between Lambda School and self-paced courses that’s worth mentioning on the front end: class size.
Lambda School has a maximum of 36 students per cohort, with an average around 15 students. There are three instructors in the cohort, plus a director of education that rotates into teaching classes from time to time.
In contrast, self-paced courses have an average of five students per instructor and often one instructor for every course. That’s a big difference!
It might seem like a few more people would be distracting, but the class size difference allows Lambda School to offer more individualized attention for every student.
More instructors means each instructor can give more time to each student. The average number of years of full-time work experience for Lambda School’s three instructors is 12, so they bring a lot of experience into the room that students can learn from.
Lambda School also offers one-on-one mentorship with instructors and career coaches – something not all self-paced courses have!
The biggest downside of course is you can’t go at your own speed since everyone has to do the same topics together. That being said, you have access to more resources than if you are on your own, including an active community on Slack.
Lambda School Cost And Income Share Agreement: How much does Lambda Bootcamp cost?
The tuition at Lambda School is $30,000 USD. However, Lambda offers an Income Share Agreement (ISA), which allows students to pay no tuition upfront in exchange for agreeing to pay 17 percent of post-graduation income for up to 24 months or until the $30,000 in tuition is charged.
When a student obtains a “Skilled Position” that pays $4,166.67 or more per month, this agreement kicks in.
The ISA is Lambda’s way of putting their money where their mouth is and demonstrating that they don’t make any money until you do.

SkillShare, which I previously checked, is an example of a low-cost course platform with a low monthly fee.
Still, compared to a four-year college degree, Lambda’s coding Bootcamp is inexpensive and fast, and it’s well worth it if you want a college-like learning experience that will teach you everything you need to get a job in tech.
If you’re not scared of taking on a big challenge then consider Lambda school for your future. It’s worth it. The technology industry needs people who are willing to go the distance, and Lambda School will give you an education that will help every part of your life succeed.

From mentorship to teaching to a support system that is brilliantly designed, these folks know students are people with lives and don’t just want to be “students.” The size of the class allows for every student to understand what they need to learn for their desired profession, get individualized attention even for those without enough funds or organizational help outside of classes, so you can really focus on your time as an undergrad.
With over 7 years in operation this online school is highly efficient and very customizable; I love being able to work part-time during my degree completion week. Highly recommend!
I’m not gonna lie, Lambda school is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. But if you can stomach some intense workloads and never feeling like you’re ready, it’s worth a shot at least just to see how well I did. Every morning there was an online quiz or assignment due every day with at most about five days off for the year and we were still working on friends and family projects (it’s ok–we got 10% help from our coworkers’ time).
I was lucky enough to be a member of the class of 2021 at Lambda school. From what I had seen from the others in my cohort, it looked like it wasn’t going to work out. But then, we were assigned one-on-one mentors who would give us regular feedback on everything from our goals and how well we completed assignments, to ways we could improve our skills and habits that would make us more successful students as time went by. What’s important is that this guidance never felt artificial; it was always honest advice based off one person’s experience coupled with data about how everyone in their professional fields were doing in terms of success rates after graduation (and ours was impressive!).
I was only able to take one year of college at CSULB before I ran out of money, and it has been holding me back ever since. Lambda School offered me an opportunity to learn and grow in my career without any debt, in just six months. It is hard work but people from all walks of life have found success here as long as they put in the effort- personally it’s made a world difference for me!
I’m here to tell you, this school changed my life. Not only did it introduce me to the world of machine learning and coding, it gave me an incredible network of lifelong friends that I know will be there for me whenever I need them. With under ten students per class in a truly intimate environment, I made close connections with the other members of our cohort – we became like family. The teachers are highly experienced professionals who put their hearts into their work so that they can help prepare us for whatever challenges may come up down the road. And all throughout everything, Lambda offers support and guidance tailored just for every individual’s needs – because nobody has one perfect way to learn or grow in any situation!
I have personally found nothing but an insurmountable amount of support and pointers for success in this school. I’ve seen people from all different backgrounds find success with Lambda School’s rigorous program, if they’re willing to put the work in.
Like all other elite schools, Lambda school requires hours of rigorous studying and homework- a lot more than if you were to go through the normal university route. But this school gives you 100% free rein over your work schedule which allows for people with busy lifestyles get just as much out of it as those who have plenty of time on their hands. If not more so! The program is pushy, but I really ought to say that’s exactly what they’re going for- in order to propel their students into success when dealing with crazy deadlines or simply trying to keep up with everything else. It just proves that if you put in the work, amazing things can happen here.
It can be tough staying motivated during the always ongoing fast paced study
Academics are hard, you’ll be buried beneath books every day. Achieving your goal will take immersive programming, guidance instruction and upper management support on the side of professors who have some of the highest credentials in their fields. As a dedicated student, I can say that this school has provided me with all those things and more! The friendly staff members here give out food for free just because they wanted to greet everyone during finals time last year. I also ran into someone from my childhood who not only helped me study but we were able to resell our textbooks together after we both graduated! If investing everything you have into a education is what you want then Lambda School is perfect for you.
The program is very intense, but it’s a rewarding challenge to work through. You have the opportunity to learn from an extensive amount of people with vastly different backgrounds and experience levels, all at your own pace. Lambda school doesn’t just teach you how to code-it brings out the best in you as an individual.
I won’t stop bragging about my experience at Lambda School. I’ve never seen such eager, hard working people in any school–yet these students come from all walks of life! It’s so inspirational!

It’s been over a month since I was accepted into Lambda School, and I have to say that the experience so far has been great. This school is very fast-paced, but it’s also broken down in modules of around five weeks or so each with tasks like “analyzing engineering resumes” or “coding careers.” The best part about this program is that you get help from peers as well as professors every step of the way.
Finding the right school is tough, so it’s important to find one with a curriculum that fits your needs. I’ve been through (insert name of other schools) and found nothing but an insurmountable amount of support and pointers for success here at Lambda School. You’ll get out what you put in, if you have dedication and attention span this program will be enough of a test to push you to the limit. It’s fast-paced and intense, but I’ve seen firsthand that people from very different career backgrounds have found success with this program if they had put in the work.
