Looking for BloomTech Review Review, we are here to help you today.

In today’s tech sector, there is a significant talent shortage. In 2021, it is predicted that the number of open computing vacancies will outnumber eligible applicants by nearly one million.

Companies now seem to have vacant slots that can’t be filled, whether it’s for software engineers, data scientists, or IT specialists. As the twenty-first century progresses, the demand for engineering and computing professionals will increase, increasing the tech talent gap even more.

As a result, computer science and coding Bootcamps have grown in popularity among those looking to break into the tech industry and fill one of these open positions.

The Lambda School is one of these coding Bootcamps, but is it one you should attend? It’s worth noting that the Lambda School has recently been embroiled in many scandals.

There have been allegations that the initial revisions of the program were hurried, and that student achievement rates were exaggerated.

Bottom Line Upfront:

Lambda School is an online coding school that bets on you. It provides training to the people to become software engineers and data scientists at no upfront cost. You only need to pay tuition fees after you get a job making $50,000/yr or more, in exchange for a small share of their future income.

Online coding reviews

As a result, the question arises: is Lambda School, in the end, worth the money? Are their alumni success rates as high as they claim? Is it possible to consider signing an ISA with the Bootcamp to be a wise investment in your professional development? Let’s find out:

How hard is it to get into Lambda?

Lambda School has a good acceptance rate. A large majority of those who apply will be granted admission. However, this policy has the unintended consequence of lowering the graduation rate. This is significantly lower than the graduation rate at comparable coding schools with more stringent admittance criteria, which was only 71% in 2019.

Is lambda a good coding school?

There are several reasons to choose Lambda School for your web development and data science education. They have a good reputation in the online coding Bootcamp sector, and their full-time courses run six months.

Is Lambda coding legit?

Lambda School, on the other hand, is a real organization. There are educated professors and a proven curriculum that can help you land a career in the tech industry after graduation, despite the fact that the school is not accredited.

BloomTech Review 2023 Top Pros & Cons | BloomTech (Formerly Lambda School)

The cost of traditional education is high. Many students are forced to take out loans to pay for their education because of the high cost of tuition, books, and lodging.

The average student loan debt in the United States today is $32,731. Across the globe, the situation isn’t much better than it is here. As a result, British and Canadian students who complete their degrees owe an average of $30,800 and $20,000 respectively. Most German university students graduate with debts of roughly $2,400, despite the fact that their education is completely free in Germany.

A college degree is no longer a guarantee of a job, therefore that’s a significant sum of money. At the same time, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York estimates that about a tenth of recent college graduates are unemployed.

In the tech business, what would happen if you could land a high-paying job with no student loans? Austen Allred, who founded Lambda School in 2017, was motivated by this belief. It is the goal of Lambda School, an online provider of computer science education, to eliminate student loan debt by locating and developing “untapped or underutilized talent,”

Lambda School Review Overview

Lambda School is a web development and data science Bootcamp that prides itself on its in-depth curriculum and top-notch instructors. Their online coding Bootcamp has a strong reputation, and their courses are comprehensive, lasting six months when taken full-time.

They were based on the premise that conventional university education is “broken,” in part because universities have little financial motivation to ensure that their graduates succeed and find good jobs after graduation.

Lambda School is a free online coding Bootcamp that prepares students to work as software engineers and data scientists. Full-time, 6-month programs are available at the computer science academy.

Students will demonstrate mastery of key frontend and backend technology, as well as computer science fundamentals, during the intensive curriculum.

Remote classes are live and interactive, with one-on-one assistance, technical mentorship, real-world product building opportunities, and regular code reviews.

Interview training, portfolio analysis, successful resume writing tips, and salary negotiation practice are all available to students at the school. Students graduate with 900+ hours of coding experience.

“Delete any possible obstacle to a world-class education and become the best place in the world to start a new career,” says Lambda School.

To achieve this goal, they use a deferred tuition model, in which students pay a percentage of their income after accepting a job, and only if they earn at least $50,000 per year. Tuition installments and reduced upfront tuition are two other options.

Prospective students must complete precourse work or entrance exams as well as have a high school diploma, GED certificate, or college transcript as part of the application process.

What All You Can Learn:

Full Stack Web Development and Data Science are the two major online programs offered by Lambda School. Both programs last six months if taken full-time (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), but students can also enroll part-time.

The full-time classes meet several times a year, with new class orientation and pre-course work starting every few months on average.

Courses In Lambda School:

Online courses - Lambda School Review

Full Stack Web Development:

You’ll learn how to build web apps and software for the web in Lambda School’s web development course. Javascript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, React, Python, and SQL are among the front-end and back-end technologies you’ll master.

The above tools/languages are a new technology that a traditional web-focused employer would find important and appealing, which means you’ll have a good chance of landing a job as a software engineer after graduation.

Full Stack Web development - Lambda school review

You’ll be able to create whole web applications by learning the “full-stack” (front-end, back-end, and database technology like SQL), which will be highly regarded in the tech industry and help you land a software engineering job.

If you want to be a web developer, I suggest this type of curriculum as a former tech recruiter: Full-stack web creation with an emphasis on Javascript. This is also stated in my study of the top 18 online coding Bootcamps.

I believe this will be easier to learn than a Java or other older technology-focused course/Bootcamp, and it will increase your chances of landing a job after graduation.

(FYI, Java and JavaScript are completely different programming languages.)

Data Science:

The computer science course at Lambda School will teach you topics like Machine Learning, Data Visualization, Databases, Statistics and Modeling, and Natural Language Processing while also introducing you to technologies like Python and SQL.

As a former tech recruiter, I believe the website of Lambda School that this work type is growing at a rate of 26% per year.

Online Data Sciences-Lambda school review

Companies, especially in the tech sector, are discovering that they need to process an increasing amount of data in order to make better business decisions and stay competitive.

For example, e-commerce giants like Walmart and Amazon are being flooded with millions of pieces of data each day related to customer buying habits, how one product performs versus another, which products are often bought together, and SO much more. They’ll rely on your experience and knowledge as a data scientist to help them to store, process, and make sense of this data.

Full Tuition:

$30,000 – Paid in full upfront or by an income-sharing agreement

There are numerous coding Bootcamps available, each with a different price tag. The Lambda School charges a tuition of $30,000, which is very high.

Despite the fact that they’ve cut their prices to $15,000 in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic, they’ve slashed their prices to $15,000.

Tuition Options-Lambda school review

Students at the Lambda School have two options for paying their tuition: all at once or in installments via their Income Sharing Agreements (ISA).

When you sign an ISA deal, you agree to pay 17 percent of your gross income for two years as soon as you earn $50,000 after graduating from Lambda.

Course Duration:

For 9 months, 40 hours per week. 15 hours a week for 18 months.

Lambda School offers two key courses: data science and full-stack web creation, both of which are 9 or 18 months long depending on whether you choose to study full-time or part-time.

Walk Away With:

Lambda students can receive an official certificate of completion after 9 or 18 months, as well as several collaborative projects for your portfolio that demonstrate solutions to real-world problems.

Not only that, but Lambda also offers mock interviews, resume polishing, and career coaching to its students. The school will pair you with a local professional in your field who can support you with your resume, career opportunities, and building your professional network.

At the end of the day, Lambda School students will have the beginnings of an industry-leading portfolio, access to their vast and active student/alum network, a polished resume, some top-of-the-line interviewing skills, and a knowledgeable mentor who can assist them on their tech career path.

 Focus Areas:

Lambda School currently offers two key courses: data science and full-stack web creation.

Lambda School students undergo comprehensive online training in the following areas as part of their data science curriculum:

  • Python
  • SQL
  • Data Visualization
  • Machine Learning
  • Linear Algebra
  • Databases
  • Statistics & Modelling
  • Natural Language Processing

Because of the length of time, you’ll be at Lambda School, you’ll be able to get in-depth training in data wrangling and storytelling, statistical tests and experiments, linear algebra, linear models, model comparison, applied modeling, software engineering, SQL, and databases, productization and cloud, natural language processing, neural network foundations, cutting-edge models, and more.

The full-stack web development course covers:

  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Node
  • React
  • Python
  • Redux
  • SQL

You’ll learn HTML, CSS, Git, UI Principles, React, Redux, React Router, HTTP/Ajax, functional programming techniques, Advanced React, state management, web applications, and a focus on back-end development—a choice between Java (Java fundamentals, web APIs with Spring, testing with JUnit) or Node (Node.js web APIs, data persistence, authentication) in this full-stack web development course.

The full-stack web development course, like the data science course, offers opportunities to collaborate on a real-world project alongside a select group of your peers.

Lambda School Review Benefits and Reasons to Enroll:

Joining Lambda School gives you access to a tried and true curriculum so you can learn all in one place, as well as a live learning environment where you can communicate with classmates through Slack, give and receive code feedback as you learn new material, and ask your professors questions.

There are benefits of self-study that you wouldn’t get from a pre-recorded software engineering course. If you wanted to learn software development for free online, such as via YouTube or blog posts, you wouldn’t get these benefits.

With Lambda, you’ll get a more immersive, high-quality learning experience.

You’ll also be working on real-world projects and portfolio pieces that you can display to prospective employers after you graduate.

In Lambda’s web development program, for example, every fifth week is “Construct Week,” where you work with a small group of students to create a web page or other project. You may be in control of stuff like user experience/UX design or engineering itself, depending on your level of expertise.

Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from working on real-world projects if you’re self-taught. Later, I’ll discuss some Lambda alternatives, like self-learning software engineering.

Overall, Lambda School’s courses are a nice middle ground between a four-year computer science degree (which is very expensive) and learning everything on your own for free or through low-cost courses (which is difficult and slow).

Another advantage is job placement aid, which will assist you in finding high-paying jobs after graduation.

  • Established, standardized curriculum so you don’t have to put together information from multiple sources
  • Experienced, professional teachers to speed up the learning process

The ability to chat with classmates and connect with teachers in real-time (for example, Lambda School has a Slack channel for each cohort).

  • Real-world projects to help you develop a portfolio
  • Hands-on learning of new and in-demand web technologies and programming languages. There are full-time and part-time positions available.
  •   Work placement support, including access to Lambda’s various recruiting partners in Silicon Valley and other top tech markets, to help you find a job after graduation.

  • Students record potentially large class sizes (40+)
  • Requires a long time commitment; the full-time curriculum lasts six months
  • One of the most costly online tech Bootcamps, at $30,000 USD

Success Rate:

Success Rate - Lambda school Review

The success rate of any Bootcamp is a critical factor in deciding whether or not to participate. Within six months, 86 percent of Lambda’s graduating students find a tech job paying $50,000 or more, according to the company. By no way is this a bad success rate.

In an investment memo titled “Human Capital: The Last Unoptimized Asset Class” for the startup incubator Y Combinator, Lambda School reports that “We’re [Lambda School] at approximately 50% placement for cohorts that are 6 months graduated,” according to a study by Intelligencer published in February of 2020.

According to the Intelligencer, the 86 percent figure is based on the first cohort of 71 students at Lambda School, and even that amount, according to a former director of career readiness, may be inflated.

If this is the case, Lambda School’s success rate is significantly lower than that of its competitors.

Lambda School Student Application Process:

About the Admission process- Lambda School Review

The application process at Lambda School is simple and consists of creating an account, filling out an application form online, taking entrance exams, and signing enrollment papers.

You must also decide between two programs: software engineering with an emphasis on web development and data science.

Finally, you’ll choose start date and complete your application.

However, Lambda School does have a specific type of person in mind when deciding who to admit to their programs, as mentioned on their website:

Is a Lambda School curriculum worthwhile?

Lambda School in news

Is a Lambda School curriculum worthwhile? It’s a fair point, given how notorious coding Bootcamps have been in recent years. And, to be honest, Lambda School’s tuition is on the higher end of the spectrum as compared to other related Bootcamps.

Lambda School is a school that prospective students should seriously consider attending. For certain people, $30,000 is a big amount. Not to mention the increasingly contentious existence of Income Sharing Agreements (ISAs), which are popular at Bootcamps such as Lambda.

Legislators such as Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren have cautioned that the existence of ISA agreements could be misleading or deceptive.

In the end, whether the Lambda School is worth the $30,000 or 17 percent of your gross income for two years depends on what you hope to gain/do with your Lambda School education.

You might be disappointed if you’re only searching for a certificate that says you know web development or data science. You will be competing with college-educated applicants for any tech position you apply for.

Furthermore, as previously said, Lambda School’s progress rate might not be as rosy as their website indicates. If, as some of their internal investment documents indicate, the real success rate is about 50-60% of graduates finding a $50k/year job within six months, the prospect of forking over $30,000 becomes more troublesome, particularly given the price is two times higher than average tuition at comparable Bootcamps.

Not to mention the fact that some students from Lambda’s first cohorts said the program was hurried and underdeveloped. Many students have had to rely on self-teaching and outside support to complete their work because the teaching staff has long been criticized for being unqualified.

To be honest, if these criticisms are true, Lambda School is not worth the money, particularly because there are numerous other Bootcamps that provide similar curriculum at a much lower cost.

Who Should go to Lambda School:

Lambda School is ideally suited for someone who is completely engaged, passionate, and eager to put in the effort necessary to pursue a career in technology.

The word “gritty” is used on Lambda’s website to describe the type of student they seek: someone who will persevere in the face of adversity, do whatever it takes to excel, and devote 100 percent of their time to studying computer science and software engineering.

So, if you’re on the fence about pursuing a career in software engineering or data science, Lambda School is not the best coding bootcamp for you.

Instead, start with a less expensive and easier solution like SkillShare, which is self-paced and needs less time and money.

Then you should come back to Lambda School at a later date! There’s no point in enrolling in such a costly and time-consuming programme if you’re not sure if this is the right career for you.

However, if you’re completely committed and want to learn software engineering in an immersive, live classroom environment, Lambda offers one of the best coding Bootcamps available.

Lambda School vs Self-Paced Courses

Even though you can teach yourself software engineering online, some resources are better than others. There’s one big difference between Lambda School and self-paced courses that’s worth mentioning on the front end: class size.

Lambda School has a maximum of 36 students per cohort, with an average around 15 students. There are three instructors in the cohort, plus a director of education that rotates into teaching classes from time to time.

In contrast, self-paced courses have an average of five students per instructor and often one instructor for every course. That’s a big difference!

It might seem like a few more people would be distracting, but the class size difference allows Lambda School to offer more individualized attention for every student.

More instructors means each instructor can give more time to each student. The average number of years of full-time work experience for Lambda School’s three instructors is 12, so they bring a lot of experience into the room that students can learn from.

Lambda School also offers one-on-one mentorship with instructors and career coaches – something not all self-paced courses have!

The biggest downside of course is you can’t go at your own speed since everyone has to do the same topics together. That being said, you have access to more resources than if you are on your own, including an active community on Slack.

Lambda School Cost And Income Share Agreement: How much does Lambda Bootcamp cost?

Tuition Installments-Lambda School

The tuition at Lambda School is $30,000 USD. However, Lambda offers an Income Share Agreement (ISA), which allows students to pay no tuition upfront in exchange for agreeing to pay 17 percent of post-graduation income for up to 24 months or until the $30,000 in tuition is charged.

When a student obtains a “Skilled Position” that pays $4,166.67 or more per month, this agreement kicks in.

The ISA is Lambda’s way of putting their money where their mouth is and demonstrating that they don’t make any money until you do.

Conclusion: BloomTech Review 2023 (Formerly Lambda School)

Lambda School is worth it if you’re looking for immersive, full-time web development or data science coding Bootcamp and are willing to pay a premium for live instruction and an organized curriculum.

However, the investment is not small at $30,000, and the time commitment is significant, with full-time students needing six months before graduating.

Because of this, Lambda’s programs are best for students who are committed to learning web development or data science and feel the need for structure and guidance rather than learning by themselves.

Lambda School is not worth it if you’re unsure whether you want a career in tech, and/or are not fully committed to learning this field right.

If you enjoy learning new things and solving problems on your own, the high cost and time commitment of Lambda School are just too much for you, in my view.

Self-taught, with a few pre-recorded video courses thrown in for good measure, is much less expensive than a full-time coding Bootcamp like Lambda.

SkillShare, which I previously checked, is an example of a low-cost course platform with a low monthly fee.

Still, compared to a four-year college degree, Lambda’s coding Bootcamp is inexpensive and fast, and it’s well worth it if you want a college-like learning experience that will teach you everything you need to get a job in tech.

14 User Reviews on Lambda School

  1. If you’re not scared of taking on a big challenge then consider Lambda school for your future. It’s worth it. The technology industry needs people who are willing to go the distance, and Lambda School will give you an education that will help every part of your life succeed.
You’ll never have to worry about going in unprepared at a job interview again because now you can learn from anywhere with our online bootcamps!
See how the cost is less than traditional college tuition? There’s nothing stopping someone like yourself with limitless potential from being educated today.
The instructors are there for all times of business hours to do one-on-one time and answer any or all questions too. I recommend Lambda School.

  2. Lambda School is the perfect choice for people who are willing to buckle down and put in the work. In just three months, I’ve got a new understanding of the industry that I love, more friends than you can shake a stick at, references from executives across Silicon Valley, and some really fantastic classes. It was tough but it was totally worth it!

  3. Lambda School has it all. From mentorship to teaching to a support system that is brilliantly designed, these folks know students are people with lives and don’t just want to be “students.” The size of the class allows for every student to understand what they need to learn for their desired profession, get individualized attention even for those without enough funds or organizational help outside of classes, so you can really focus on your time as an undergrad.

With over 7 years in operation this online school is highly efficient and very customizable; I love being able to work part-time during my degree completion week. Highly recommend!

  4. I’m not gonna lie, Lambda school is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. But if you can stomach some intense workloads and never feeling like you’re ready, it’s worth a shot at least just to see how well I did. Every morning there was an online quiz or assignment due every day with at most about five days off for the year and we were still working on friends and family projects (it’s ok–we got 10% help from our coworkers’ time).

  5. I was lucky enough to be a member of the class of 2021 at Lambda school. From what I had seen from the others in my cohort, it looked like it wasn’t going to work out. But then, we were assigned one-on-one mentors who would give us regular feedback on everything from our goals and how well we completed assignments, to ways we could improve our skills and habits that would make us more successful students as time went by. What’s important is that this guidance never felt artificial; it was always honest advice based off one person’s experience coupled with data about how everyone in their professional fields were doing in terms of success rates after graduation (and ours was impressive!).

  6. I was only able to take one year of college at CSULB before I ran out of money, and it has been holding me back ever since. Lambda School offered me an opportunity to learn and grow in my career without any debt, in just six months. It is hard work but people from all walks of life have found success here as long as they put in the effort- personally it’s made a world difference for me!

  7. I’m here to tell you, this school changed my life. Not only did it introduce me to the world of machine learning and coding, it gave me an incredible network of lifelong friends that I know will be there for me whenever I need them. With under ten students per class in a truly intimate environment, I made close connections with the other members of our cohort – we became like family. The teachers are highly experienced professionals who put their hearts into their work so that they can help prepare us for whatever challenges may come up down the road. And all throughout everything, Lambda offers support and guidance tailored just for every individual’s needs – because nobody has one perfect way to learn or grow in any situation!

  8. I have personally found nothing but an insurmountable amount of support and pointers for success in this school. I’ve seen people from all different backgrounds find success with Lambda School’s rigorous program, if they’re willing to put the work in.

  9. Like all other elite schools, Lambda school requires hours of rigorous studying and homework- a lot more than if you were to go through the normal university route. But this school gives you 100% free rein over your work schedule which allows for people with busy lifestyles get just as much out of it as those who have plenty of time on their hands. If not more so! The program is pushy, but I really ought to say that’s exactly what they’re going for- in order to propel their students into success when dealing with crazy deadlines or simply trying to keep up with everything else. It just proves that if you put in the work, amazing things can happen here.
It can be tough staying motivated during the always ongoing fast paced study

  10. Academics are hard, you’ll be buried beneath books every day. Achieving your goal will take immersive programming, guidance instruction and upper management support on the side of professors who have some of the highest credentials in their fields. As a dedicated student, I can say that this school has provided me with all those things and more! The friendly staff members here give out food for free just because they wanted to greet everyone during finals time last year. I also ran into someone from my childhood who not only helped me study but we were able to resell our textbooks together after we both graduated! If investing everything you have into a education is what you want then Lambda School is perfect for you.

  11. The program is very intense, but it’s a rewarding challenge to work through. You have the opportunity to learn from an extensive amount of people with vastly different backgrounds and experience levels, all at your own pace. Lambda school doesn’t just teach you how to code-it brings out the best in you as an individual.

  12. I won’t stop bragging about my experience at Lambda School. I’ve never seen such eager, hard working people in any school–yet these students come from all walks of life! It’s so inspirational!
I know if you put in the time and effort, you’ll find that Lambda is a place where dreams come true- for everyone!
    I highly recommend Lambda School.

  13. It’s been over a month since I was accepted into Lambda School, and I have to say that the experience so far has been great. This school is very fast-paced, but it’s also broken down in modules of around five weeks or so each with tasks like “analyzing engineering resumes” or “coding careers.” The best part about this program is that you get help from peers as well as professors every step of the way.

  14. Finding the right school is tough, so it’s important to find one with a curriculum that fits your needs. I’ve been through (insert name of other schools) and found nothing but an insurmountable amount of support and pointers for success here at Lambda School. You’ll get out what you put in, if you have dedication and attention span this program will be enough of a test to push you to the limit. It’s fast-paced and intense, but I’ve seen firsthand that people from very different career backgrounds have found success with this program if they had put in the work.
