Google packed a lot into search this month, and bloggers chasing AI search visibility need to keep up. The headline is Gemini 3.5 Flash now running inside search, with a stack of new agentic features. The search box is turning into something that can take steps and complete tasks, not just return links.

Alongside that, Google rolled out preferred sources globally and added them inside AI Mode. Users can now tell Google which sources they want more of, worldwide. Google also shipped five improvements to the links shown inside AI Mode and AI Overviews, after long complaints that AI answers buried their sources.
For bloggers, two things stand out. First, preferred sources reward brands. If readers trust your site enough to mark it as preferred, you earn a stronger spot in their AI answers. That puts a premium on being a name people recognize, not just a page that ranks.
Second, the link improvements matter for traffic. If AI answers surface their sources more clearly, the sites cited inside them have a better shot at clicks. Being the cited source is the new front page.
The bloggers comparing notes in r/Blogging this week kept circling one idea. Build a brand readers ask for by name, since that is what preferred sources reward. Generic content from an unknown site gets summarized and skipped.
Your move this week. Strengthen your brand signals. Get readers to follow you, subscribe, and search for you directly. Write the kind of clear, factual content AI systems lift and cite. The search box is becoming an assistant. Make sure it knows who you are.
