You’ve probably seen their commercials on YouTube or Facebook. A prominent person or chef in front of a beautiful background discussing science, photography, or food is a familiar sight.
Just by looking at the commercials, you’ll be curious about what MasterClass is all about.
So far, I’ve been a long-time user of MasterClass and also have watched and evaluated a large number of courses.
In this MasterClass tutorial, I’ll go over MasterClass’s background, how MasterClass works, how much masterclasses costs, where you can join MasterClass, and what you can expect if you decide to join up.
What Is Masterclass?
A masterClass is an online education platform that was established in 2014 by David Rogier, while a student at Stanford. Initially known as Yanka Industries, Inc., the website for MasterClass was launched the following May with just three teachers.
Later on, in 2017, an additional 12 courses were added, and by 2018, the overall number had skyrocketed to fifty. CNBC provided MasterClass with a value of $2.75 billion in the year 2021.
Due to the high-profile instructors on MasterClass, it is a notable online learning platform. It has famous and VIP teachers that are eager to share their expertise, enthusiasm, and experience with you.
So, whether you’re interested in taking a class from Stephen Curry in basketball, Alicia Keys in songwriting, or Gordon Ramsay in cooking, MasterClass could be a good option for you.
Since its inception in 2014, this San Francisco-based online learning company has offered more than 150 courses in 11 different categories. It takes around 10 minutes to complete each lesson in a class of 20.
Since its beginning, MasterClass has expanded its catalog to include a wide range of classes in the following subject areas:
- Entertainment and the arts.
- Housing and way of life.
- Music.
- Composing
- Business.
- Food.
- Style and design
- Sports and video games
- Local and national governments.
- Health.
- Technology and science.
A MasterClass course consists of between about two and four hours of high-quality video lectures delivered by reputable and well-known specialists. Each course is broken down from 10 to 15 video courses, each lasting between ten and twelve minutes.
MasterClass has just launched a new feature called Sessions that leads students throughout a 30-day, hands-on learning experience with certified teaching assistants if they are keen to increase their knowledge levels or wish to ask questions.
Additionally, students get access to a workbook that can be downloaded, which makes it the ideal partner for extra study outside the video lessons.
Who Is MasterClass For?
It’s difficult to say for certain: Who is the ideal candidate for MasterClass?
Anyone who has an interest in a specific subject, such as photography or Middle Eastern cooking, may benefit from MasterClass.
The fact that MasterClass features well-known actors and actresses as instructors is a significant competitive advantage. The fact that you can study storytelling from Neil Gaiman and singing from Christina Aguilera makes MasterClass an unusual online learning platform.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll be hooked on MasterClasses video classes since they’re short and sweet (10 minutes or less each).

If you want to study at home, the Standard membership is the best option for you. This is a great option when you’re a couple since MasterClass enables you to view from several devices simultaneously. (Subscriptions to Netflix are subject to similar limitations).
Offline access to MasterClass is a boon for folks who want to watch it on their way to work without using up all of their data plans. Those on the Plus and Premium subscriptions can do exactly that.
In my opinion, the $180 per year option is the best value since I typically take one MasterClass every month, which works out to a $15 price per class.
Subscriptions may be changed or canceled at any time. The best way to get started is with a realistic strategy. All MasterClass courses are available to you no matter which membership package you pick.
How Does MasterClass Work?

Not only that but considering how much some of these specialists charge for lectures at prestigious colleges, having them all in one spot for $180 is a deal.
But how does MasterClass function as a learning environment? Most importantly, does MasterClass work? Will watching a few famous lecturers speak for a few hours teach you new skills and knowledge?
Those questions are difficult for everyone to answer since we all have various life expectations and objectives. However, since I (and most likely you) fit into MasterClass’s target demographic of 30- to 40-year-old workers, I can attempt to breakdown down what it’s like to utilize MasterClass in order to assist you to address the above questions for yourself.
How To Get Access To MasterClass

People join up for MasterClass for a variety of reasons, but that’s not the primary one. Unlike most people, I’m unsure of my own ignorance.
As a result, I like the prospect of discovering a topic I’ve never heard of and diving into four hours of video lectures that provide a thorough grasp.
